As modern dwellings have become increasingly compact and urban, interior designers have been concerned with how clever use of colour can make spaces appear larger. With that in mind, we have spoken to legendary designer Massimo Buster Minale, founder of London-based interior details brand Buster + Punch, on how you can use colour in your kitchen to this end…

Minale said “The use of colour to create the illusion of space is a theme we see time and time again when discussing interior design with our customers. From the Buster + Punch Kitchen Collection, there are two finishes I can recommend depending on the layout and position of the space.

For kitchens that run parallel to a garden or other outdoor space, I always recommend our Scrambler Green finish. The soft green of the kitchen units fuses with the outdoor space to create the illusion of one larger, coherent block. It helps to connect the interiors to the natural outdoor tones to make your kitchen feel larger, and more vibrant, adding the serenity of nature into your home. It’s especially strong with kitchens that have large doors or windows that open out into natural areas. The most intelligent interior design makes the maximum use of space in your property, and that includes the outdoors.”

Changing his attention to more classic finishes, Minale explained “For lighter tones, our Stone Grey finish is a smart option for creating kitchen spaces that breathe. The interplay between the stone units and natural light sources maximises and enhances the brightness of your room, making it feel larger and airier. Personally, I like using Stone Grey, combined with complementary Caesarstone countertops, and Buster + Punch Steel cabinet hardware in a kitchen with skylights as it really evokes a feeling of drama and atmosphere.”
